The entries for this year’s British Classic Week look set to create a spectacle on the Solent from 16th to 23rd July. Celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, the regatta is attracting yachts from across the UK and Europe.
To date, the oldest yacht in the fleet is 1896 H. W. White gaff cutter Eilun, closely followed by Fife III designed Clyde Linear Rater Mikado, built in 1904. The beautiful Fife III designed Viola (1908) will once again join the regatta from her home in the south of France. At the other end of the spectrum will be the modern classic Spirit Yachts fleet designed by Sean McMillan, plus a 1967 Alan Gurney racing sloop, Crusade.
Criteria for entry is IRC classic yachts of 24ft and over or modern classic, Spirit of Tradition yachts of either wood or steel construction. Fast-paced racing will take place in the challenging tidal waters of the Solent against the historic, picturesque backdrop of the Isle of Wight. This year, the regatta will host a new class for gaff-rigged yachts to race under OGA ratings.
This year, British Classic Week continues its partnership with Tall Ships Youth Trust with a fundraising campaign to help support the charity’s work with young people across the UK.
