Bough Beech Sailing Club to host 2023 edition
Applications to compete in the RYA National Team Racing Championship 2023 for the Prince Philip Trophy are now open.
Bough Beech Sailing Club in Kent is getting set to host sailors from across the country over the weekend of 25-26 March for the latest edition of this #rockupandrace event.
Also supported by the UK Team Racing Association, RYA, and kSail, requests for invitations to take part are welcome from RYA Affiliated clubs, class associations and organisations.
Up to 24 teams of six will be competing in two-person Firefly dinghies, which will be provided by the host venue. Team are invited to register their interest for an invitation by no later than 9am on Friday 3rd February 2023.
Bough Beech SC, at Bough Beech Reservoir, Edenbridge, is just a few miles south east of Sevenoaks with easy access from the M25, and offers a stunning venue with a sheltered boat park and easy access to 400 acres of water.
Local organiser and competitor Andy Cornah, who is head of sailing at Sevenoaks School, said: "Bough Beech is one of the key team racing bases in the UK and it's a great venue with racing right by the shore in most wind directions making it good for spectators as well.
"All the top teams take part in the RYA National Team Racing Championship and the event always has a mix of senior, university and school teams, so there's three competitions within the competition. We're really looking forward to it."
Andy will be sailing with current title holders and defending champions West Kirby Hawks who will be looking to see if they can make it four-in-a-row and seven in total, after winning in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2022.
The event was not sailed in 2019 due to too much wind or 2020 as a result of the pandemic.
