New sponsor for Round Jersey Race

The Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club is pleased to announce that industry leading asset servicer Citco is to sponsor the Club's annual Round Jersey Race on Sunday 6th August, an open event for all, local and visiting boats alike.

Charles Millard-Beer, Director, Citco Jersey Limited, said "We are delighted that Citco will be the sponsor of this exciting and historic sailing event".

The RCIYC, one of the oldest of the 'Royal' clubs, was granted a Royal Warrant by Queen Victoria in 1862. The Round Jersey Race, dating from the 1930s, is a 'must do' event in the Club's racing programme with the cruiser classes competing for the venerable Jesse Boot and Cabot Memorial Trophies whilst the sport-catamaran classes will be equally vigorously vying for the much-prized multihull trophies (their long-standing record of 3 hours 7 minutes remains unbroken, a challenge in itself).

This forty mile plus circumnavigation of the Island takes the fleet eastwards from the starting line in St Aubin's Bay to the eight miles-distant Violet Channel buoy thence anticlockwise round the Island to finish in St Aubin's Bay.

Commodore Kevin Newman said "This is a really spectacular event; a circumnavigation of this beautiful island is certainly one of the best ways to experience the stunning scenery.

Boats are invited to enter through the Notice of Race on www.rciyc.je/racing.
