Welland Yacht Club host Wash Rivers and Edgar Bain Memorial trophy races

Welland Yacht Club welcomed sailors from Ouse Amateur Sailing Club and North Hykeham Sailing Club to compete in the Wash Rivers and Edgar Bain trophies on Sunday.

The Wash Rivers trophy dates back to the mid-fifties and was historically competed for between Welland, Witham, Denver and Whittlesey.

The Edgar Bain Memorial Trophy - named after the former Welland commodore in 1958-59 - was originally competed for by Welland, Wisbech, Denver and Snettisham Beach sailing clubs. Now it is awarded to the highest placed individual competing in the Wash Rivers.

After all the results had been compiled, the winning team taking the Wash Rivers Trophy were Ouse's Pope-Pogmore, Bradley and Rollard after beating Hykeham's Sallis, Robson and Munnery by three points

Ouse's Hawks, Ryland and Cooper were then followed by Welland’s Follington, Boyd and Tack ahead of Scourfield, Powell and Cox and finally Bell, Chapman and Mitchell of the home club.

The Edgar Bain results saw Bradley (Ouse) ahead of Rollard (Ouse), Hawks (Ouse), Scourfield (Welland) and Sallis (Hykeham) with Rollard picking up the tankard for highest placed over 50-year-old.

Next year North Hykeham will host the event with Ouse in 2025 and hopefully the rotation between the three clubs will carry on once again.

This Sunday, the Welland club is holding its annual meeting.
