Sailing event organisers from across Ireland convened on Saturday to coordinate actions on the national sailing events calendar.
The high-powered meeting, described as 'informal' was held immediately after the ICRA AGM at Dun Laoghaire Harbour and was attended by representatives of major regatta organisers and clubs who had earlier made event presentations at the AGM.
According to Afloat sources, the meeting was intended to explore ways to promote Irish regattas internationally and focused on the 2024, 2025 and 2026 Irish sailing calendars. Attendees discussed concerns over the lack of suitable accommodation availability for competitors when staging events.
The meeting was attended by representatives from several clubs, including Wicklow Sailing Club's Round Ireland Race, Royal Cork Yacht Club's Cork Week, Howth's Wave Regatta, as well as Volvo Dun Laoghaire Regatta and it also had ICRA, SCORA, and ISORA involvement.
The organisers hope that by coordinating the national sailing events calendar, they can promote Irish regattas and attract international participants, bringing economic benefits to the local communities where the events are held.
