A business owner is gearing up for his biggest sailing challenge yet in aid of a lifeboat charity.
Greg Kiddell, from Snettisham, runs Kiddell Kitchens based at Syderstone Business Park and has been sailing for a year and a half.
Now, the 44-year-old is about to brave his hardest challenge yet as he prepares to sail the 1,800-mile trip around the UK coastline on his own in just six weeks to raise money for the RNLI.
Hoping to get £20,000 worth of donations, Greg will be leaving Snettisham on May 1 onboard his MacGregor 26s, which he has named Bella.
“Although I have a business and can pay the bills and pay my staff, I just think what’s the point in life as I haven’t really achieved a lot, but if I could do this I would have sailed all around the UK, which is huge for me, and I would’ve raised this mammoth amount of money for a charity that risks their lives to save normal people,” he said.
“If anything it’s a talking point down the pub.”
Greg spends time training at Snettisham Sailing Club and often reads online forums to find out about other people’s experiences.
“I was planning on doing it last year, but I decided it was foolish because I hadn’t been sailing for long,” he said.
“I’ve learnt a lot in the last year, I spend a lot of time studying and doing preparations, I feel like I’m ready.”
