Two cadets from a Bolton sailing club have came out on top in a regional sailing competition. Molly Haslam from Delph Sailing Club in Egerton, won the Tipsy Icicle Series at Leigh and Lowton Sailing Club, while Rory Freestone finished second in the junior fleet, paddling flash.
Molly and Rory competed against some of the best in the North West in the competition.The competition which took place across 10 weekends, in different categories.
Club development officer Ian Brown said: “Molly has been sailing for two to three years.This is the first time Rory has done racing, after only sailing for a year and he came second."
It's a result of work between us and The Anderton Centre."We have loaned him his boat for a year in an exclusive use basis too. Everyone puts their all in.”
Finley Smith, from the same club, also finished fourth in the competition, as well as Gordon Riddell, the club's principal race officer, who came second out of 26 in the ILCA Fleet
Across the series 160 sailors competed, making this still the biggest club dinghy winter series in the UK.
