Coble Festival sails back to Bridlington this weekend 29-30 June

The largest gathering of traditional sailing cobles to be seen anywhere in living memory will assemble at Bridlington over the weekend of 29-30th June for this year’s Sailing Coble Festival.

The now annual event – which is growing year-on-year – is recognised as a major maritime attraction on the Yorkshire Coast and will showcase some beautiful examples of heritage vessels.

Finishing touches for this years Sailing Coble Festival are now well underway and the programme for the popular weekend is compete.

A spokesman for the organisers said: “Once again generously sponsored by Yorkshire Coast BID and with the full support of the Bridlington Harbour Commissioners, the organisers are confident it will bring many visitors to the resort from far and wide.

“Twelve sailing cobles are already registered as attendees with a further two yet to be confirmed by owners.

There will be plenty of musical entertainment throughout the weekend as well as the teams down the Flamborough Longsword dancers.

Various stands and stalls will be situated within the harbour Exhibition Hall for visitors to browse.

Refreshments during the weekend will be provided by Bridlington Lions with seating around the stage area for a more relaxed atmosphere.

The spokesman added: “Sailing will take place on both days of the Festival, subject to suitable weather conditions, and the ideal vantage point to get a photograph of the cobles under sail will be on the North Pier.

“With midday tides, and hopefully the summer weather, Bridlington harbour is definitely the place to be over the Festival weekend and what a fantastic venue it is.”
