With very fickle weather seeming to have been the major feature of the sailing programme throughout the year it was somewhat surprising to find that conditions for the first day of the combined clubs' Carey Olsen Jersey Regatta, run from Friday 13th to Sunday 15th September, were to be precisely the same as on the first day one year ago. Bright sunshine, slight seas and a light northerly breeze through Friday morning quickly extinguished any thought of sending the cruiser classes on an extended coastal race.
Light but stable winds were to be a feature of all three days with the breeze veering southerly on Saturday and south-westerly on Sunday save for the final hours of the closing day when a rapid sixty degree shift to the north-west saw the mark-layers spring into action for the only course realignment of the whole event.
Following a very successful day's racing on Sunday, everyone homed in on St Helier Yacht Club for supper and the prize-giving. Carey Olsen Group Marketing & Business Director Chris Carpenter, having presented the many trophies and prizes, congratulated all competitors, race officials and the many volunteers and to great applause confirmed that the 27th Jersey Regatta would be held under the Carey Olsen banner in 2025. In closing proceedings, Regatta Chairman Bill Harris thanked him and Carey Olsen for their much-valued and enthusiastic support.
