THE Royal Lymington Yacht Club welcomed the Princess Royal to its centenary celebration on Saturday.
The club, of which Princess Anne is patron, hosted a regatta and Aprรจs Sail Festival at its Bath Road base and on the adjacent recreation ground to mark 100 years since its formation.
As well as the royal visit, the members-only event included hay bale hurdle races, and live music from 1960s cover band Carnaby Army and R&B group JG & the Ultimates.
Club members headed out onto the water in flotillas of yachts, dinghies, motorboats and paddle craft to take part in a variety of racing and cruising events throughout the day.
A fleet review took place on the Solent, with sailing yachts and motorboats on anchor near the club’s starting platform, along with a colourful display of pottering Lymington River Scows.
A number of members’ yachts were dressed for the occasion, and the club’s youngest members joined fun sailing activities on Oxey Lake.
Back at the group’s headquarters there were festival-style celebrations, with music, dancing, bars, a barbecue and paella stall.
Family games included a tug of war and the Yellow Welly Throw, and the Centenary Haybale Games hosted by George Heathcote featuring obstacle, hurdle and relay races for children and adults.
