Royal Lymington Yacht Club sailors grab gold at RYA Youth National Championships at the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy.

A HOST of Royal Lymington Yacht Club sailors dominated their classes at the RYA Youth National Championships at the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy.

Around 280 sailors competed at the event, dubbed the season's premier youth racing contest.

The planned medal race in the 420 class could not be held, so Royal Lymington's Henry Heathcote and Oscar Cawthorne (Shustoke Sailing Club) held on to the overall win, counting all races inside the top four across the week.

In the 29er class, counting a massive six race wins from their nine races, Royal Lymington's Finian Morris and Oscar Morgan Harris (Hayling Island SC) claimed gold.

Morris said: "This is our first week regatta win, and we're stoked as it shows our potential going into the worlds.

Royal Lymington’s Santiago Sesto-Cosby and Kuba Staite (Hayling Island SC) took silver, with Charlie Gatehouse and Ben Bradley completing the overall podium in bronze.

Finishing as the top 29er female crew and one of two female teams to qualify for the medal race were Royal Lymington's Annabelle Vines and Madeline Bilbrough (Hayling Island SC).

Annabelle said: It was very testing, windy and very wavy, so difficult for the girls to keep up with the boys this week because of the weight difference. But we developed loads as a team, getting along well still and the results were good so we are very happy.

"It's our first season sailing together, so we're off to a good start!"
