The vessels will vary in size from the tall ship Phoenix at 34 metres overall to open boats such as Proteus which is just over four metres.
The Falmouth Classic fleet of more than 150 will have been built and designed during or before 1972, alternatively, boats that have been launched in the last 50 years, that have been built to an earlier design, traditionally in wood or have a traditional rig such as gaff or lug are also eligible.
Approximately 30% of this year’s fleet was built before 1950. The oldest entry to date is the 1881 St Ives Lugger Barnabas.
More than 100 vessels will be racing on Friday, June 16 and Saturday 17 in 13 classes. They will be racing for valuable prizes from Teamac, Noble Masts and Musto.
The organisers are expecting around 125 vessels to participate in the Sunday morning parade of sail and a further 25 steam and small boats to parade around the inner harbour early on Sunday afternoon.
The Falmouth Classics event kicks off in the River Fal and Falmouth Bay on Thursday, June 15.
It has been sponsored by Atkins and Ferry Wealth Management and the Falmouth Harbour Commissioners.
From 11am, more than 90 vessels will be arriving in the port to berth alongside on mooring and at anchor from France, Germany, the Channel Islands, Northern Ireland, the Essex Rivers, Solent and harbours in the South West.
Some 50 volunteers and the Falmouth Haven Team will welcome and assist them to their berths.
