Bart's Bash back at sailing academy for 10th year

A SAILING race in memory of a much loved sailor is to return to Portland. Bart’s Bash is the headline event of the Andrew Simpson Sailing Foundation, and remembers the Olympic sailor whose name is now immortalised in the charity.

It will be held at the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy on Saturday, September 16 from 10am to 4pm.

The community event will feature the world's largest sailing race with sailors from across the globe taking part.

There will be a donation on entry to enjoy an open studio courtesy of ArtWey, live music from local musicians, a barbecue, drinks and a bouncy castle. There will also be an after party at at SALT on Portland Marina with live music from 7pm onwards.

Money will be raised towards The Andrew Simpson Foundation.

This year will mark 10 years since the tragic death of Sherborne sailor Andrew, who died in 2013 when he became trapped under a catamaran after it capsized during an America's Cup training exercise in San Francisco.

With your help, Bart’s Bash will continue to be a global event, enabling people to get out on the water and keeping Bart’s name alive for generations to come.
