Aberdeen set to host Tall Ships Races in 2025

 

ABERDEEN anticipates the return of Tall Ships Races in July 2025 after a 25-year hiatus, promising a maritime spectacle for all.

Aberdeen is abuzz with excitement as plans unfold for the much-awaited Tall Ships Races event set to grace the city’s harbour in July 2025. Councillor Martin Greig, Aberdeen City Council’s culture spokesman, welcomed a diverse audience, including national public bodies, tourism representatives, and third-sector organisations, to the Tall Ships 2025 inception event.

Sail Training International representatives outlined the significance of hosting a successful leg of the races for the city and region. The session concluded with round-table discussions where guests shared thoughts on their areas of interest.

Bob Sanguinetti, CEO of the Port of Aberdeen, highlighted the importance of the Tall Ships Races to the city’s maritime history: “The Tall Ships Races hold a special place in the hearts of many Aberdonians, and planning is already well underway to ensure a great success in 2025.”

Aberdeen Inspired’s Chief Executive, Adrian Watson, emphasised the broader impact, stating, “The return of the Tall Ships will attract thousands of people to a spectacular event they will remember for a lifetime.”

An estimated audience of 400,000 is expected to flock to Aberdeen, witnessing around 50 magnificent sailing vessels. Visitors can anticipate a temporary nautical-themed village, a crew parade in the city centre, live performances, a light show, and departure celebrations.

" The Tall Ships Races Aberdeen 2025 is a great opportunity for the Granite City and the whole of the north-east,” Watson added, highlighting the positive economic impact on local businesses, restaurants, bars, shops, hotels, and other attractions. The city eagerly awaits the maritime extravaganza that promises to create lasting memories for all involved.
