Wherry Yacht Charter's 2024 summer sailing programme

The charitable organisation, which works to restore, maintain, and operate five of the surviving eight wherries in the world, relies primarily on its sailing trips for income.

The charity's new offerings come in response to public demand.

Following a successful multi-sailing event last year, three similar trips have been organised on July 25, July 28, and September 30, in which four ferries will sale together.

According to the charity, seeing multiple wherries in full sail is a 'rare and spectacular sight', and early booking is advised.

On June 11, the charity is set to introduce a new event, Sketch and Sail.

Budding artists are invited to join the charity’s resident artist, Sue Haywood, for a day’s sailing from Wroxham.

Participants will be guided in creating multimedia art pieces, drawing inspiration from the scenic Broads.

For nature lovers there are trips from Wroxham to Salhouse on May 16, June 29 and September 10 with a guided tour of Hoveton Great Broad Nature Reserve, which is only accessible by river.

After a long hiatus, one of the charity's wherries will reappear at Oulton Broad on May 31 and June 1.

It will offer one-hour taster trips for adults and children at £20 and £10, respectively, with opportunities to inspect the vessel when it's not sailing.

The 2024 programme further includes popular favourites such as trips to Wroxham Yacht Club and sailings associated with the Museum of the Broads in Stalham.

These, along with various other trips setting off from localities around the Broads, can be booked online from February 1.
