A team of young sailors, some from Rutland, have won the first event of the RYA Match Racing Series 2024 at London's Queen Mary Sailing Club.
The sold out fixture at Queen Mary SC came ahead of Storm Isha, making for an exciting day of racing - but one that skipper Ben Tylecote and his team could more-than manage as they claimed victory.
The qualifiers, which took place ahead of the storm on 20 and 21 January, saw nine teams competing for top spots in the RYA Match Racing Series 2024.
Sailing last weekend with Issy Leetch, Matt Wright, David Bromilow and Will Martin for this event, Tylecote also saw success in Australia at the International Youth Match Racing Championship Final in December.
Both Tylecote and Issy are members of Rutland Sailing Club, which benefits from having two RS21s for training thanks to a John Merricks Sailing Trust legacy grant.
Sailors competed in a range of weather conditions, and proofed fantastically when winds reached 30+ knots,
Tylecote and his team, once again, did Rutland proud.
