Scottish village gears up to host one of the UK's most prestigious sailing events

Final preparations are under way as a Scottish loch prepares to host one of the UK’s most prestigious sailing regattas.

The Scottish Series 2026 will return to Tarbert on Loch Fyne on Friday bringing hundreds of competitors and spectators to the village for four days of racing and shoreside activity.

Organised by the Clyde Cruising Club, the event has been a cornerstone of the sailing calendar for more than 50 years, attracting crews from across the UK and further afield.

Tarbert, in Argyll, has hosted the regatta since the 1970s, with its sheltered bay and access to open water making it one of Scotland’s premier sailing venues.

Set on lower Loch Fyne – which stretches more than 40 miles through Argyll – Tarbert offers a natural gateway to the Firth of Clyde and the Cowal and Kintyre peninsulas.

Its location has long been considered ideal for competitive sailing, with routes extending via the Crinan Canal or around the Mull of Kintyre towards the Hebrides.

The Scottish Series has grown into a major fixture on the sailing calendar, featuring a programme of races across multiple classes, from smaller keelboats to larger racing yachts. The event draws a mix of experienced sailors and amateurs, with many crews attending as family groups.

This year’s regatta will also support the Beatson Cancer Charity, adding a fundraising element to the competition.
