Nod Race 2023 at Overy Staithe Sailing Club

Overy Staithe SC hosted their annual 'Nod' Race on Monday 21 August. This is a relatively long distance race and sees the fleet race from OSSC through to Brancaster harbour, using the Nod mark as the turning point.

Race Officer Jerry Clark was ably assisted by Nina Plumbe and Peter and Melba Beck, who kindly loaned their boat 'Maggie May' as committee boat.

A large fleet competed in the race, with a total of 46 boats ranging from Sharpies to Toppers enjoying sparkling conditions in the morning sunshine.

Alex Scoles (OK) soon broke cover and led the race through the channel. He was hotly pursued by Ash Deakin (Laser) and the OK's of Rodney Tidd and Simon Turner. The RS400 of Peter and Andy Turner didn't cope well with the shallows and was an early retirement.

Georgia Toosey was given a fanfare as she crossed the line in her Pico, the final boat to finish and a real demonstration of determination!

Results, based on handicap:

1st - Alex Scoles, OK

2nd - Ashley Deakin, Laser

3rd - Rodney Tidd, OK

4th - Simon Turner, OK

5th - Alex Smith and Paul Beachell, Sharpie
